about

I am a writer and lifelong storyteller. Over years of experimenting, I have come to writing and photography as my primary chosen mediums for making sense of the world. As a reader with my nose often buried in a book and a fledgling professional writer and photographer, I have experienced first-hand how stories connect people in a myriad of ways. I began my life in storytelling in the joy I found reading novels as a child; I continue to cultivate joy in my professional work as a writer.

My reporting and writing to date have mainly covered education and travel in multiple continents. My early experience involved writing and editing for multiple publications including the Washington University Political Review during university and the national award-winning Science Survey in high school.

I had taken a brief hiatus from my professional writing career to pursue meaningful personal projects—most notably moving back to my ancestral homeland of China. Reflecting on my time in China, I return committed to my career as a writer and journalist.

I am a highly adaptable and versatile writer. Even if I do not (yet) have extensive experience writing for certain verticals, I am immensely curious, learn conventions quickly, and always striving to broaden and improve my skillset. My strengths lie in idea-generation, research and interviews, and telling a good story. I am meticulous about my work but not to the point of neuroticism. I am deadline-oriented, honed through years writing papers as a student of the humanities, and adept at balancing multiple projects at once (honed through my years working part-time while being a student).

Currently, I am a Staff Writer and Content Specialist in the University Communications Office at NYU Shanghai. In this role, I write news and feature articles about academic and student life, highlighting NYU Shanghai’s diverse population of talented students and faculty.

I am also a Senior Global Writing & Teaching Fellow at NYU Shanghai, which means I work closely with students to improve their writing skills. Mentoring younger writers has equipped me with immense insight into the ethos and care with which I hope to eventually become an editor.

I aim to build bridges between people and cultures in my work, writing about what is oft-not discussed in the mainstream travel, food, lifestyle, and culture spaces. My work is infused with my personal cultural and class background. I am rooted in advocating for the communities that have raised me, the communities I find myself in now, and the ones that I will join in the future.

I care immensely about building community among writers and editors at a publication in addition to our core work of publishing high-quality stories. If these values resonate with you, I would love to explore a partnership together.

In my free time, I am usually traveling, moving my body by means of weightlifting, running, or hiking, trying to master a new recipe, or wandering the streets with my film camera in hand. I love balmy sunny days and a warm cup of honey ginger tea.
